The book is well written even for the amateur. I am a mortgage loan underwriter, so it is very useful for me to help my friends, but this book guides the user step by step so that anyone who can read and understand the English Language, even as a second language can benefit from it.

Finally! I've been waiting for a book to show me how to short sale my house and get out from under. This one does exactly that and even has the forms to use and the lender's phone numbers. Lots of advice on how to get a lender to do what you need it to do

This weekend I read six of Jim Randel's "Skinny on" books--creativity, credit cards, direct sales, the housing crisis, real estate investing (part 1) and networking.

These books use the Japanese writing style known as Magna. The author researches his topics and reduces the subject down to a one to one and a half hour read that simplifies the concepts in easily understandable stories. Following the illustrated stories he provides a quick summary of the points to remember. He then lists a further reading section and recommends specific books for those that want the fine details.

The Skinny on Credit Cards: How to Master the Credit Card Game should be prior to accepting any credit card agreement. It provides easy to understand useful information that can keep the reader out of credit card troubles before it happens and detailed information on how to get out of credit card debt. The author provides useful websites for those looking for help in reducing their credit card debt.

This book is extremely informative, a time savers and a fun read. Don't be fooled by the stick figured illustrations. This is a serious book about a complex subject written in an easy to understand format.

I am so glad I read The Skinny on Credit Cards. I will take the author's tips and will recommend this book to my friends and family.

Not only is the text painfully small but it's as though you're trying to read a bad mimeograph copy. As for content, this is credit card 101 not instruction for "mastery". I was painfully disappointed.

QUICK SUMMARY: This quirky, mildly humorous, quick-reading book provides a wealth of information for anyone willing to spend an hour reading it. Taken to heart, the information and tips could save you or someone you love a lot of money and heartache. Highly recommended!

*** What I LIKED:

- The book succeeds in helping ANYONE understand credit cards
- In spite of the low-tech stick figures it employs, the book succeeds in creating a storyline that keeps the reader reading
- It humorously delivers its important messages
- It can be read in about an hour, yet the information and wisdom it imparts can guide a person for a lifetime
- It explains the "Rule of 72" and the FICO credit score
- It's up-to-date with the recent federal law changes that were passed in 2009
- It defines words like "median" and "algorithm", so it doesn't talk over the reader's ability to understand
- It takes a neutral stance on the debate whether people should EVER use credit by presenting a variety of viewpoints from well-known gurus like Dave Ramsey, Suze Orman and Liz Pulliam Weston.
- It has a good "Further Reading" section at the end of the book
- It concisely names "15 Important Points" about credit cards at the end of the book

*** What Could Be Better:

- The book sometimes cites its sources for the statistics it shares, but often times, it doesn't. I like to know the source of any statistic.
- It lacks an Action Plan at the end of the book that tells the reader the next steps to take (especially if the reader is in credit card debt)
- No index. Even this book would benefit from an index.
- Stick figures are, quite simply, unimaginative and boring to look at!

I plan on requiring my 14yo son to read this book, so we can talk about credit cards now, in his formative years, so he is well-equipped to use and understand how credit cards work and the danger of misusing them.

Highly recommended!

These really are ninja tricks and they work great. The tips in this book are simple to follow and really will improve your credit score. I am impressed with the effectiveness of this book. This not only helped improve my credit score but I have used a lot of the tips in here to help make better decisions for my business and we are more profitable now. This is a must have book.

Calling this book, "Ninja Tricks" is definitely a stretch. As I mentioned in the title, if you have ANY experience or knowledge of the FCRA & FDCPA, improving your credit (I don't want to use the terms "________ repair" ) etc. Move on, you already know everything presented in this book.

For the cost I will say for a beginner this is definitely a bargain. I tend to not believe books that have ALL 5 star reviews but I figured for the cost if I could learn one thing, it would be worth it.

The good of the book. It gives a good run down of the entire process for someone who is an absolute beginner or has surface knowledge of the credit reporting/correction system. The bad or lacking?? I don't want to be totally critical because again the price, you're getting what you pay for. That said, the section in dealing with "Collection Agencies". I wish it would have addressed not just "collection agencies" but the differences between: collection agencies(CA's), junk debt buyers (JDB's or "SCUM" generally speaking) and the attorneys that sometimes they hire to do their dirty work. I'm aware of this but someone new to this will not know the difference if it's not explained.

Overall it's not much of a loss when you consider the price. But regardless of the price, this is NOT a 5 star book and I would STRONGLY question those reviews as either being the authors friends or family.

Dave Reed has written an excellent book. His style of a Q & A format makes for easy reading and he keeps the answers short and on point. I own a mortgage company and a real estate brokerage, and I think his book could easily be used by the following 3 groups:
1) People shopping for a loan
2) Realtors who want to familiarize themselves with the multitude of loan products available.
3) Any agent new in the industry. I would advise every lender to have a copy on hand. If you get a new agent who is inexperienced, put them in a corner their first day on the job and have them read this book.
I think Mr. Reed has done a thorough job explaining what is currently out there in the way of mortgages, and his Q & A format worked because that is typically how a loan officer gets and delivers information, i.e. "If I do that what happens?" or "Can I buy this house with this much or that much down?"
He strongly encourages in this book to find an experienced loan agent who is working in your best interest. Even though there are a loans available these days, not all make financial sense to all people. Sometimes a borrower just has to take what is offered due to job history, credit history, or lack of downpayment. But, the good news is that people can now get loans who could not get loans in the recent past (at somewhat reasonable rates). Real Estate has been so good to so many people, that it is undeniably the best investment for the average person. I've seen it too many times in my 19 years of being in the business. Dave Reed has done much to add to the understanding of loans for the average person.
Good job Dave on this great book.

Do not lend or broker mortgage money without reading this book; you will learn more from this book than you would from spending ten years in the business.

I use page magnifiers like this quite a bit but they are so frequently over-priced and some brands do not work as well as others. With this purchase, I got a great value. I've never before found this many of the wallet size magnifers at this price and to top it off, they are great. The image is nice and large and very clear with minimal distortion. I highly recommend them!
